Dorothy Mae Williams, 92, of Abilene, danced into Heaven's Gates on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 21, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home with David Cason officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Dorothy was born in Ranger, Texas, to I.J. and Lena Dobbins on September 5, 1924. She went to school in Cisco and graduated from Cisco High School. She married Claud Williams on March 20, 1943, in Cisco. Dorothy's first job was running an elevator at Laguna Hotel in Cisco at age 17. After marriage, she was then a homemaker, wife, and mother. She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star. She started attending nursing home gospel singings in 1969 and was recently recognized with a Volunteer Service Award for over 26 years of faithful service. Since 1952 she was a member of Elmwood Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Sunbeam Band and served on many various committees throughout the years. She also served with Abilene Baptist Association as Associate Sunbeam Band Director in the 60's and as a delegate from Elmwood Baptist attending all ABA Meetings. Dorothy was a strong supporter of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. She also enjoyed dancing with Jim at Rose Park Senior Center, Abilene State Park, and on the star in downtown Abilene. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister Mollie Dobbins, brother Bill Dobbins, and sister Louise Dobbins Warren. Dorothy is survived by her boyfriend, Jim Lovell; son, Don Williams and wife Brenda; daughter, Ellen Rumpff and husband Terry; sister Wanda Johnson; grandchildren Dora Jean Vaccarezza and husband Jason; Tonya Pappas and husband Michael; Andy Rumpff and wife Mandy; Daryl Williams and wife Krista; Mollie Jones and husband Aubrey; great-grandchildren Lacey, Zoe, Mickael, Morgan, Hunter, Taylor, Natalie, Abigail, Sarah, Mikah, and Cedar; a great-great grandson, Luca; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be nephews Ray and Steve Williams, grandsons-in-law Aubrey Jones and Jason Vaccarezza, Mickey Chaney, Dorton Canon, and Paul Smith (honorary). The family of Dorothy wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Hospice of the Big Country and the doctor and nursing staff at Abilene Regional Medical Center.
