Dorothy Dee Spykes

Dorothy Spykes, 91, of Abilene, passed away Thursday, May 1st, 2014. The funeral service will be Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, with Dr. Don Greenway officiating. Interment will be Monday, May 5, at 11:30 a.m. in Forest Grove Cemetery in Telephone, Texas. Born in Telephone, Texas on October 3, 1922, Dorothy was the daughter of Flora Ellen (Owens) and Dearmond Burt Green. She married Roy Herman Spykes on August 8, 1943. She was a LVN, having worked for Arlington Memorial Hospital for 16 years. She was a member of North Side Baptist Church in Abilene. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Herman Spykes on July 22, 2005; a grandson, Brandon Spykes; her parents; a brother, Claude Green; and two sisters, Darlene Daniel and Deanna Green. Dorothy is survived by her son, Roy Don Spykes and wife Norma of Abilene; brother, James Harrison Green of Nocona, Texas; sister, Helen Cox of Montague, Texas; one grandson, Richard Spykes; three great-grandchildren, Arlinda Porter, Lacey Spykes and LeAnne Spykes; and four great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
