Dorothy Frances Patterson, 93, passed away in Wichita Falls, Texas on Saturday, April 25, 2015. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 4, 2015 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the I.O.O F. Section of Abilene Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2015 at the funeral home. She was born to Tom Newman, Jr. and Frankie Armstrong Newman on March 24, 1922 in Abilene, Texas, where she married Pat Patterson on December 31, 1944. Dorothy attended Hardin-Simmons University and Texas A & M. She worked for the Wichita Falls ISD, retiring after 24 years. She previously was employed by Southwestern Bell. Dorothy was a member of First United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls. She was a also member of the Jane Douglas DAR Chapter, Dallas, TSTA and Beta Sigma Phi. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie “Pat” Patterson; parents, Tom and Frankie Newman; sisters, Beulah Newman and Ethel Boyd; brothers-in-law, Winston Bryant, G. W. Poer and Forrest Underwood; and nephew, Tom Bryant. Survivors include her two daughters, Patricia A. and husband Steve Dutko of Auburn, WA, and Donna L. and husband Richard Randolph of Mineral Wells, WV; three grandchildren, Stephen Dutko, Patrick Randolph and wife Shelby, and Loren Thomas and husband Jon; three great-grandsons, Rhett Randolph, Rhys Randolph and Logan Thomas; sisters, Tommie Underwood and Katie Poer; nephews, John Poer and wife Kathy, and Ted Gregg and wife Jane; and nieces, Terrie Whitehead and husband Robert, and Frances Poer. The family would like to extend special thanks to Diane Weist, Betty Weist, Heather Weist, Jody Peck, Pat Campbell and P. J. Crowley, caregivers, for the assistance and compassion they provided. A sincere “thank you” also to the Staff of The Gables at Rolling Meadows and Hospice of Wichita Falls for their compassionate care.
