Dorothy Joyce (Taylor) McCoy passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 24, 2022 at Hendrick Medical Center, Abilene, TX.
Dorothy was born on October 27, 1929 in Liberty Hill, TX to Robert Taylor and Thelma (Berry) Taylor. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, WA in 1947. In later years, she attended McMurry University.
Dorothy was a busy homemaker, raising four children. She also worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and Miller Drilling Company.
On April 21, 1950, Dorothy married Charles Edwin McCoy in Hillsboro, TX. They were married for sixty years.
Dorothy was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Abilene, TX. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a founding member of Big Country Porcelain Art Guild, and a member of Texas Federation of Porcelain Artists, holding every office in the organization. Dorothy taught china painting beginning in 1988, and won numerous awards. She owned her own art studio, “The China Painter”, in Burro Alley, Abilene, TX.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her four children, Cathy Gillit and husband Ronnie of Abilene, TX, Paula Meyer and husband Steve of Belton, TX, Chuck McCoy and wife Connie of Tuscola, TX, Kelly McCoy and wife Deborah of Clyde, TX, and numerous loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Meals On Wheels and The Salvation Army.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 29th from 9:00-10:00 AM at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road
Service will start at 10:00 AM at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, Abilene, TX
Burial following the service at Elwood Memorial Park Cemetery.
