Dorothy Virginia Johnson, 80, of Abilene, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019 in Abilene.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2019 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rick Grant, officiating.   Interment will follow in the Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Dorothy was born on June 6, 1938 in Dallas, Texas to the late Dr. Wilbur and Dorothy (Shuttles) Bourland. She graduated from Highland Park High School and graduated with honors from Texas Woman’s University with a RN Degree.  She and Gordon Kenneth Johnson were married on December 29, 1956 in Highland Park, Texas. He preceded her in death on January 3, 2017. While raising her family, Dorothy was a Blue Bird Leader, coached her girls in softball and cooked many wonderful meals for her family. She loved home decorating, cross stitching, cooking, and working with stained glass. Dorothy was a Sunday school teacher and coordinator for many years. She was a member of Wylie Baptist Church. 

Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister, Marianne Wilkinson.

Survivors include one son, Steve Johnson and wife Donna of Dunedin, New Zealand; two daughters, Marianne Rogers and husband Randy of Plano, Texas and Marilou Johnson of Abilene; two sisters, Nancy Hillyer of New Braunfels, Texas and Judy Terrell of Vancouver, Washington; and five grandchildren, Andrew Rogers, Amy Collins, Eric Johnson, Amanda Waldraff and Rachel Vaughan.

Family suggests memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 301 S Pioneer Dr #105, Abilene, TX 79605.
