Dorothy M. Garrard age 81, of Hawley, Texas, left this earth to be with our Lord on September 06, 2015 in Hawley, Texas.
Born in Durham, North Carolina, June 04, 1934, Dorothy was one of seven children born to Vander B. Williams and Myrtle I. (Epps) Williams, and the only daughter. Dorothy married Frank L. Garrard Sr. on May 26th 1951 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Dorothy and Frank stayed in El Paso, TX until Frank’s discharge from the military at which time they moved to Idaho. Having lived in a couple of different places in Idaho, Dorothy and Frank settled down in Pocatello, Idaho where they raised their 4 children.
Dorothy began her career in food retail early on where she was the assistant manager to Underwoods Market and would later work for Smith’s Food King until such time as the store was permanently closed. Dorothy then went to work for Buttrey Food & Drug where she finished out her career to retirement.
With 3 daughters, Dorothy was very active with the Girl Scouts mentoring and leading her daughters up through the Brownie stage, into Cadets and ultimately Juniors. Not only did Dorothy find time for Girl Scouts, she also assisted with the Bannock County Little League Baseball. Teaching her son to throw, catch and hit a baseball, he did quite well and Dorothy never missed a game.
As a young lady, Dorothy was taught to sew, knit and crochet. Between so many other activities, Dorothy somehow found time to hone her skills and became very accomplished at her needlecraft. She found absolute pleasure in making knitted slippers, crocheting afghans and way too many other crafts to mention. Dorothy was very much an outdoors girl and as a youngster she played baseball, was active in sports and as an adult, she enjoyed very much fishing and camping.
Being Native American (Cherokee), Dorothy took great pride in her heritage and spoke of it often to her children.
Dorothy was preceded in death by a daughter Kathleen R. (Garrard) Sanders; her brothers Jay Williams and Joe West; and her parents Myrtle and Vander B. Williams.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Frank L. Garrard Sr.; two daughters, Debbie Rundle (husband James) of Boise, ID. and Linda Garrard of Nampa, ID.; son Frank L. Garrard Jr. (wife Joy) of Hawley, TX.; 9 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.
