Dorothy Newton Davis, age 90, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014 in Richland Hills, Texas.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8pm on Friday, July 18th at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 19th at The Hamil Family Funeral Home at 6449 Buffalo Gap Road with Dr. Mark Riley, her son-in-law and pastor of Connell Baptist Church in Fort Worth, officiating. Burial will follow at the Hawley Cemetery.
Dorothy was born at home on the Clear Fork of the Brazos River in the Delk District of Hawley, Texas to Bernie and Gladys Newton on June 6, 1924. She went to Delk school and was the first in her family to graduate from high school. She married Willard Davis on April 21, 1946 in the pastor’s home of Immanuel Baptist Church of Abilene. She worked as a bookkeeper for the bank in Abilene and later as a hair dresser. She was a long-time children’s Sunday School teacher and faithful member of various Southern Baptist churches, most notably First Baptist Church of Corsicana, First Baptist Church of Bryan, Immanuel Baptist Church of Odessa, and First Baptist Church of Hawley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernie and Gladys Newton, her husband, Willard Davis, and her sister Shirley Newton.
She is survived by her son Larry and wife Teri Davis of Deer Park, daughter Dr. Bernis and husband Dr. Mark Riley of North Richland Hills, grandchildren Jarod and wife Jennifer Davis of East Asia, Dr. Jason and wife Niki Davis of Humble, Cassie and husband Jason McFadden of Abilene, Matt and wife Mandi Riley of San Carlos, CA., John Riley of Austin, and Heather Riley of Keller, great grandchildren Sterling and Liberty Davis, Jocelyn and Jaxon Davis, and Jonas, Ian, Lance, and Isaac McFadden.
Memorials may be given to Door of Hope Mission in Odessa, Texas.
