Wanette Armstrong, 90, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at a local care center. A funeral service, with Reverends Derrell Patterson and Bailey Barkley officiating, will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2007 in Aldersgate United Methodist Church. There will be a visitation from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2007 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Wanette was born May 30, 1916 in Callahan County, Texas to J. Ben and Eula Eager Hart. After graduating from Abilene High School, she earned a B.A. degree from McMurry College, now McMurry University, and began a long career as a teacher. She began her career in Rotan, Texas for five years before moving to AISD where she taught 3rd grade for 33 years. She married James F. Armstrong on September 16, 1943. A member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Homebuilders Sunday School Class, as well as a member of TSTA, Abilene Retired Teachers Association, Texas Retired Teachers Association, and National Retired Teachers Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lillian Cathryn Early. Survivors include: her husband, James F. "Jeff" Armstrong of Abilene; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Farmer of Cleveland, Texas; a brother-in-law, Don Early of Abilene; five nieces, Janette Hooker and husband Gary of Abilene, Wanette Bridges of Clarksville, Tennessee, Phyllis Duke and husband Glenn of Cleveland, Texas, Kay Stephens and husband Mickey of Conroe, Texas, and Joy Quirk of Irving, Texas; three nephews, Robert Hooker of Abilene, F.E. "Gene" Kribbs and wife Jan of Bacliff, Texas, and Pat Armstrong of College Station, Texas; several great nieces and nephews as well as many cousins.
