Doris Jean (Norton) Tucker, 76, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2007at a local healthcare facility. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, with Dr. Jeff Reid and Rev. Malcolm Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Jean was born in Haskell, Texas on July 4, 1930. She was the daughter of William Clarence and Virgie (Curry) Norton. After graduating from High School in Haskell, she moved to Abilene and entered Gail Business College, concentrating in the secretarial and bookkeeping areas. Her work experience was with Ben E. Keith Company, Hendrick Memorial Hospital, and Elliott's Funeral Home.
August 20, 1950, Jean married Clarence E. Tucker in Merkel, Texas. The family attended University Baptist Church of over 30 years where Jean taught a bible class for young woman for many years. In 1977, she and her husband began purchasing rental real estate which she managed.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Virgie Norton; one brother, Clovis Norton; one sister, Maurine Cothron; and one nephew, Joe Cothron.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence E. Tucker of the home; one son, Gary Tucker and his wife Becky; one daughter, Cara Tucker, of the home; two grandchildren, Clayton and Britney Tucker; and two sisters, Connie Carson of Merkel and Mildred Faust of Longview.
Henry Loza, Sam Elliott, Tom Carson, Steve Cothron, Clayton Tucker and Mike Brandon will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be C.D. Anderson and James H. Davis.
