Doris Starritt Pearson, 96, of Tyler (formerly of Abilene), passed away on Friday, September 25, 2015 in Tyler, Texas.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Monday, September 28, 2015, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor David Cason officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Doris was born in Jones County to George Starritt and May Belle Thomas Starritt on July 13, 1919. The 4th of 7 children, Doris spent much of her childhood helping her sick mother and then taking care of her siblings after her mother’s death. This was the beginning of a lifetime of loving, helping, and caring for her family, friends, and anyone who needed help. She was unable to pursue her formal education, but she had a lifetime of experiences, common sense, a loving heart, and the desire and willingness to help others in any way she could.
Doris was preceded in death by her husbands, Garland Morris, Jack Scurlock, Bob Pearson, and Aubrey Decker; her precious son, Tommy Scurlock; brothers, Joe Starritt, R.J. Starritt, George Starritt; sisters, Bea Alexander Pennington and Vaudene Holt; and her parents, May Belle and George Starritt.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Patricia June Morris Wright and her husband, Michael; her son, Billy Jack Scurlock and his wife, Evelyn; her brother, Bill Starritt; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephew, and friends who were considered part of her family.
