Doris Fillpot Jay

Doris Fillpot Jay, 87, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018 in Abilene, Texas. Born in Lamesa, Texas, in 1930, Doris Fillpot Jay was the daughter of George and Hazel (Jones) Fillpot. Doris and her four siblings were raised on a cotton farm in Dawson County. Surviving Doris are her two brothers, James Fillpot (Jean) of San Angelo, Texas; Ed Fillpot (Barbara) of Round Rock, Texas; and sister-in-law Avalon Crane of Fredericksburg, Texas. Her beloved husband, Clayton, preceded her in death in 2007, as well as her two sisters Joyce Fillpot Bolch and Bettye McCown. Doris met and married Clayton in Lamesa, Texas. The two were married for 59 years. Doris and Clayton found much joy in each other and were blessed with many beautiful years and their family. Children: Sherry Jay Brown (Tommy) of Hutto, Texas; Larry Jay (Sandy) of Sunset, Texas; Rocky Jay (Bobbie) of Abilene, Texas. Grandchildren: Jackie Jay, John Jay, Lori Brown-Duncan, and Kari Flippo. Great Grandchildren: Lauryn, Hannah, Gray, and Emmy. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren encircled her life. Doris is also survived by an extended family of nieces and nephews. Doris spent her celebrated, vibrant life spreading loving care and joy wherever she went. As a pioneer in a men's company, Doris was credit manager for Treanor Equipment Company (1960-1980). After a brief retirement, she accepted a job in the office of Dr. O. Akin where she worked until her health recently failed. Doris had much success in the business world. Her smile and her caring spirit remains on the hearts of all who loved her and knew her. Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00PM Sunday, April 15, in The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM Monday, April 16, in Elmwood Memorial Park with Rev. Mike Woodard officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity. The family would like to thank Doris's neighbors, Dr. Melnyk, Hendrick Hospice Care, and the ladies of Visiting Angels for their loving care.
