Doris Goldsmith, 81, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2005, at a local hospital. Services will be held Friday, October 28, 2005 at 2:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, with David Rix and Dr. Jeff Reid officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
Doris was born November 23, 1923, to the parents of Walter and Nanny Childress Lewis in Ira, Texas. She graduated high school in Lyford, Texas and attended Draughn Business College in Harlingen, Texas. She married James Goldsmith on March 13, 1946 in Raymondville, Texas. Doris was a loving homemaker that was devoted to her family and her grandkids. She always attended all of their activities and was their greatest supporter. She was an excellent seamstress, cook and Sunday school teacher. She was also an avid Bridge player. Doris was a member of Highland Church of Christ where she was a member of the Quilting Club and volunteered to work at The Pantry. She was also a volunteer for many years for Meals On Wheels.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Richard, Stanley, and Hershel Lewis.
Doris is survived by her husband, James Goldsmith of Abilene, her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Dee Goldsmith of Merkel; her brother and his wife, Oather and Lawanda Lewis of Abilene, three grandchildren, Jayma Strong and her husband, Jason; Justin Goldsmith and his wife, Tara; Janae Dye and her husband Derek; two great-grandchildren Ryker and Cortland and several nieces and nephews.
