Dorcas Evans, 92, died Saturday, September 23, 2006 in Abilene. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Tuesday, September 26 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Glen Haven Cemetery, in Glen Burnie, Maryland on Friday.
Dorcas was born on September 16, 1914 in Baltimore, Maryland to James Sappington and Mary Jane (Blanchard) Sappington. She moved from Forrest Hill, Maryland to Abilene in 2002 to be with her daughter. Dorcas worked at the A & P Grocery Store in Maryland for 27 years. Mrs. Evans was a Methodist.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Anderson Evans, Sr. in 1981, and one daughter, Doris Miriam Collins. Dorcas is survived by one son, John Anderson Evans, Jr. and his wife Pauline of Baltimore, Maryland; one daughter, Jane Street and her husband Wayne of Abilene; one brother, David Sappington and his wife Anelda of Maryland; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of Mrs. Evans to St. Paul United Methodist Church, Home Bound Ministry Program, 525 Beech Street, Abilene, Texas 79601 or to Sears Methodist Center, 3202 South Willis Street, Abilene, Texas 79605.
