Donnie Underwood

Donnie (Donald) Ray Underwood, age 65, passed away on September 13, 2024, with his loved ones by his side.

Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 16, 2024, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home.

Donnie was born April 24, 1959, to Patricia and Donald Underwood in Abilene, Texas. Donnie lived a rambunctious young life with his brothers, Gary and Richard, along with his parents and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends nearby. The adventures, love, and laughter they shared were always cherished by Donnie.

Donnie was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart. He loved his daughters Kellye and Kayla more than he could ever say. He was proudly known as "Poppy" to Kayla's daughter Piper and his "gotcha" granddaughter Ashley. Donnie enjoyed dirt track racing, fishing, and working with his hands building and fixing just about anything and everything. He had a passion for collecting, storytelling, and for helping others. He also had a great love of sports, especially for the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. His hidden passion was singing karaoke, and awe man he was ecstatic when his girls, Kellye and Kayla, came over to the house and sang with him. The smile it gave him would last for days.

Donnie started his own plumbing business that thrived for over 20 years. Through his plumbing business he was able to build and repair things for others as well as meet so many new friends. Which gave him more opportunity to share his love for storytelling. Along with his plumbing business, he co-owned A-City Speed which furthered his love of racing and building race cars as well as his gift for gab.

Donnie is predeceased by his parents Patricia and Donald Underwood.

Donnie is survived by his wife, Kate, his daughters Kellye Underwood and Jeff and Kayla Underwood, his stepson Dustin Llewellyn, his grandchildren Piper and Ashley.

Remembered forever by his siblings Gary Underwood and his wife Marty and Richard Underwood and his wife Joy. He is also loved and remembered by many cousins, niece, and nephews and many friends.
