Donna Marie Taylor
Donna Taylor, 87, of Abilene, died Monday, December 04, 2006 in a local nursing center. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Rev. Stan Allcorn and Rev. Jack Ridlehoover will officiate. Donna will be entombed in Elmwood Memorial Park Mausoleum.
On July 28, 1919, Donna was born to Ab Wooldridge and Lucy (Ward) Wooldridge in Abilene, Texas. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1937. While attending high school, Donna and her friend, Jimmie Kate Richards, had a weekly radio show where Donna sang "Pop" music and Jimmie Kate played the piano. While attending Hardin-Simmons University, Donna was a member of the Cowgirls, the Ladies Sextet, and the Glee Club. She graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 1937 with a B.A. Degree. June 24, 1942, Donna married Lucian Connell Taylor in Abilene, Texas. She worked at the Colony House Maple Shop and for New Mexico State University in Roswell, New Mexico. She was also employed at Tarrant County Jr. College for 10 years. Donna was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, two brothers, Fred and Carlton Wooldridge, and two sisters, Velma and Grace Wooldridge. Donna is survived by her husband, Connell Taylor of Abilene; two sons, Jerry Don Taylor of Coleman, TX, and Randall Lee Taylor and his wife Sue of New Braunfels, TX; one daughter, Lucia Taylor Simmons and her husband Gordon of Royal Oak Michigan; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made in honor of Donna Taylor to the Pioneer Drive Baptist Church Building Fund, 701 South Pioneer, Abilene, TX 79605.
