Donna Louise Carter

Donna Louise Owens Carter, 69, of Abilene died March 22, 2021 at home with her family at her side.

A memorial will be held Saturday, March 27, 2021 from 2 PM to 4 PM (with a brief eulogy at 2:45) at Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas.

Donna was born November 6, 1951 in Corpus Christi, TX and grew up in Ft. Worth, TX. She married her sweetheart, Bob Carter, in 1972, and they spent their life together in Abilene, TX raising two great daughters and making lifelong friendships. She stayed home with her girls when they were young and enjoyed cooking, baking, and sewing. Although her family continued to be her focus, she embarked on a career as CPA when the girls went to school full time. She was one of those fortunate people who loved her work, especially her time at Wolfe & Co. She enjoyed traveling (with an emphasis on visiting gardens and historical churches), attending musical theater, playing and directing hand bells, and being active in her kids’ various activities.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Louise (Moyer) Owens.

She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Bob Carter, her daughters Emily Meier (Darrell) of San Antonio, TX and Alyssa Ljungquist (Ian) of Brooklyn, NY, her brother Bill Owens Jr. (Theresa) of Justin, TX and sister-in-law Beth Coursey of Weatherford, TX.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA), which raises awareness for early detection and supports research in treatment of ovarian cancer, or Hendricks Hospice Care, which provides end-of-life care and family support in the Abilene area.
