Donald Elmer Poe, 80, of Abilene, passed away on January 7, 2016.
Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00PM Sunday, January 10, 2016 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas.
Funeral services will be held 2:00PM, Monday, January 11, 2016 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Cason officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, Abilene.
Donald was born in Lampasas County to Elmer Hill Poe and Alice Poe on April 17, 1935. He graduated from Lometa High School. He married Peggy Lou Taylor in March 1953 in San Saba. He worked as a lifelong truck driver and part time rancher. He received several awards during his career including one for over two million safe driving miles. Following retirement, he devoted his full time to caring for his wife and cattle ranching.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, wife Peggy, brother Raymond Poe, brother-in-law Gaylord Scogin, and son-in-law Tim Thompson.
Donald is survived by son David Poe and wife Christine, son Johnny Poe and wife Jennifer, and daughter Kathy Thompson; brother Bobby Poe and wife Doris, sister Joyce Scogin, sister Laura Bryant and husband JT Bryant, and sister-in-law Velma Poe; granddaughters Katie, Michael and Jordan; grandsons Joshua, Benjamin, Jared, Jason and Daniel; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Memorials may be given to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
