Jack Leonard, 78, of Abilene, passed away in the early morning of April 25, 2014 in Abilene, Texas. Visitation will be from 3pm to 5pm on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home on Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11am, Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Wylie United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jeff Hatcher of the Wylie United Methodist Church conducting the services. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Jack was born August 18, 1935 in Sweetwater, Texas. His parents were Edgar Bob Leonard and Willie D Lamm. After graduating from Sweetwater High School, he married Myrna June Rea May 26, 1954, in Sweetwater, Texas. Jack’s wife, Myrna, died in 1982 in Abilene. Jack later married Kay Jones. Jack was a respected business man in Abilene. He was a self-made man starting the Jack Leonard Irrigation Services in 1957 and by his hard work, dedication and concern for his customers, built a successful company that is still thriving today. Jack served multiple terms as President of the Texas Water Well Association and was instrumental in developing the agri-irrigation business all over the Big Country. Jack later brought his son Jim into the business and they ran the business together until Jack’s illness. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Willie D Leonard, and by his first wife, Myrna June Rea. Jack is survived by three children from his first marriage, Randy Leonard in Putnam, Texas, Jim Leonard and wife Cheryl in Abilene, and Donald Leonard, Abilene. Jack is also survived by one daughter from his second wife, Jacklyn Foster living in Dayton, Ohio. He is also survived by three siblings, Mary McAdams, San Angelo, Lawrence Leonard and wife Patsy from Ballinger, and Eddie Leonard and wife Jackye from Rule, Texas. He has five Grandchildren: Misty Bingham, Tatum Kerbow, Blake Leonard, Zachry Leonard, and Whitney Leonard Vaughn and seven Great-Grandchildren. Jack is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to recognize Jack’s companion and friend, Franzes Culp from Sweetwater as well as his faithful Schnauzer, Gizmo. Jack loved his children and family and worked hard all of his life to be sure all of his children would be cared for after he was gone.
