Donald Copsey, 81, of Abilene, Texas, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, while in Hendrick Hospice Care. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Friday, December 4, 2015 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Dr. Jeff Reid will officiate, assisted by Pastor Jesse Morton. Burial will follow at 11:00 am at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
Donald was born October 21, 1934 in Madison, Wisconsin to Clifford and Dora Copsey. He served his country for 26 years in the United States Air Force as an Air Craft Maintenance Superintendent. He entered the Air Force on February 15, 1954 in Watertown, WI and retired from Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, TX on August 1, 1980. After retiring from the Air Force, Donald owned his own remolding business and later worked for Texas Instruments for 3 ½ years. For the next 13 years, he worked for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
Donald married Judith Michel of Lake Mills, Wisconsin on July 3, 1958 and together had four children. They moved to Abilene in August of 1973. He loved his family and enjoyed traveling around the world with them. Donald was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Copsey of Abilene; daughters, Tammy Roman and husband Richard of Lilburn, GA, and Brenda Allred and husband Jerry of Leander, TX; sons, Donald R. Copsey of wife Kim, of Bossier City, LA, and Ronald Copsey and wife Amy of Flower Mound, TX; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Mass, of Wisconsin.
