Donald Wayne Colley

Donald Wayne Colley, 72, of Canyon, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 26, 2010. Born in Paris, Texas on October 19, 1938, Donald was the son of the late Julia Eunice (Merrett) and Ira Leon Colley. He held a bachelor's degree, and served for four years in the U.S. Air Force. He was an electronic technician and worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He also owned and managed rental properties for 40 years. Donald married Margaret John Carey on April 19, 1962 in Floydada, Texas. Since 1965 they had been residents of Canyon, Texas, and were members of the Arden Road Baptist Church in Amarillo. Donald was a former member of the Lions Club and assisted with the Lions Club Eye Bank in Amarillo. He was also an avid sports fan. Very much a family man, Donald especially loved his wife, children, grandchildren, son-in-law and daughter-in-law. He will be deeply missed by his family. Donald is survived by his wife, Margaret Colley of Canyon; son, Kent Colley and wife April of Haskell; daughters, Lana VanOverbeke and husband Brett of Brownwood, and Julie Colley of Canyon; two granddaughters, Maci Colley and Grace Colley; and grandson, Kade Colley. Survivors also include his sister, Rita Chrane and husband Tom of New London, North Carolina; sisters-in-law and husbands, Von Dean Muncrief and Bill, Betty Maynard and Pat, and Nancy Mayo and Kelley; brother-in-law, Lyndal Carey; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 30, at Arden Road Baptist Church in Amarillo, Texas, with Rev. Dale Bigham officiating. A viewing will be held in Abilene on Sunday, October 31, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m. Sunday in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories in Abilene officiated by Rev. Tim Skaggs. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Chrane, Bill Muncrief, Pat Maynard, Kelley Mayo and Lyndal Carey.
