Donald Ray Caudill, 89, of Abilene, passed away on November 27, 2022, in Abilene, Texas.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM, Friday, December 2, 2022, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor David Cason officiating.
Donald Ray Caudill was born in Abilene, Texas to Ray and Petreta Gray Caudill on February 21, 1933. Donald attended grade school at Valley View Elementary School before promoting to North Junior High and Abilene High School. Donald graduated from Abilene High School in 1951. Following High School, he entered Hardin Simmons University where he received a degree in Business Administration in 1955. Donald was commissioned into the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant and was stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. Following his service, he married Carolee Richardson. They had two daughters, Laura Caudill Turner, and Pamela Caudill Williams. Donald was recalled to active duty in 1962 during the Cuban crisis where he and his family were stationed at Ft. Garden, Georgia. He received a Veteran’s honorable discharge.
Donald’s work history included time spent with Anderson-Clayton, Texas Electric Service Company, and the family retail business with Caudill’s Specialty Shop and My Closet. Donald retired from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas after serving 14 years in the purchasing department.
Donald loved his family and his extended family deeply and enjoyed gathering with them for special holidays and events. In his leisure time he was especially fond of spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, and playing golf. Donald loved his dog, Trixie, and spent days enjoying her companionship.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Peggy Caudill Hawes, and niece, Sherrill Hawes Adams.
Those left to celebrate his life include his two daughters, Laura Caudill Turner of Marble Falls, Texas, and Pamela Caudill Williams and husband, Joseph, of Abilene, Texas. Grandchildren Courtnee Turner Johnson and husband, Brandon, of Big Spring, Texas, and Haven Karae Williams of Abilene, Texas. Great Grandchildren Emma Johnson and Kennedy Johnson. Nephew, Hugh Rust Hawes III of West Columbia, Texas, and a host of great nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given to Meals on Wheels Plus, of Abilene, Texas, or donor’s choice.
The family of Donald wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. D. Allen Schultz, Interim Hospice, and the staff of Silver Spring Health & Rehabilitation Center for their compassion and care.
