Don Weldon Harless, 95, of Abilene, passed away on November 10, 2023, in Abilene.
Visitation will be 9:00 to 10:00 am, Monday, November 20, 2023, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, November 20, 2023, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene with Dr. John Whitten, of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, officiating. A graveside service will be at Hillside Memorial Gardens at 2:00 pm, Monday, November 20, 2023, in Snyder, Texas with Pastor Ben Reid, of First Baptist Church Snyder, officiating.
Don was born in the Loyd Mountain Community in Scurry County Texas to Ben and Ola Harless on February 22, 1928. He attended school in Snyder and graduated from Snyder High School. He married Vera Nell Hart on November 4, 1949, in Snyder, Vera passed away on April 21, 2014, after 64 years together. Don started working for Sun Oil Company in 1951 in Snyder. He transferred to Graham in 1979 and then to Abilene in 1984 where after 36 years he retired in 1986. Don served in the U.S. Navy for 2 years. Don and Vera were very active for many years in serving at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. They played an active part in the starting of Prime Timers. He was actively involved in Snyder’s little league program.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Geleska Baze, Bobby Newton, and Ramona Reed; brother, Jack Harless.
Don is survived by two sons, Gary and Tonya Harless of Katy, Mark and Sheila Harless of Ira; six grandchildren, Kara Thompson of Tomball, Kyle Harless of Abilene, Kameron Harless of Katy, Kolter Harless of San Marcos, Amy Vickers of Ira, and Kristen Flanagan of Ira; ten great grandchildren, Kennedy Lovelace, Parker, and Payton Thompson, all of Tomball, Ruby Lee and Gregory Weldon Harless of Katy, Van Clare of Abilene, Konner Vickers of Ira, Madisyn, Ally, Taylor Flanagan of Ira.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Harless, Kolter Harless, Kameron Harless, Drew Thompson, Kyle Vickers, Tony Flanagan, Parker Thompson, and Konner Vickers.
Memorials may be given to Hendricks Hospice Care Center, 1651 Pine St, Abilene, TX 79601, or Pioneer Drive Baptist Church building fund, 701 S. Pioneer Dr., Abilene, Texas 79605.
The family of Don Harless wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the nurses of the Collier Wing, C3, and the Dr.’s and nurses of Hendrick Hospice Care for the kindness and care they gave to Don.
