Don Wilson Estes, Sr. had an abundant entrance into heaven Monday night with his family by his side singing together, December 6, 2010. Don was born August 10, 1937 to Wilson and Virginia Estes. He came to Abilene as a child in 1947. He Graduated from Abilene High School and attended Hardin Simmons. Don was married to his loving wife Jean Estes June 27, 1957.
He was a dedicated father, businessman and loved the Lord with all of his heart. He loved to sing praises to God. He was a true worshiper. He had been an accountant for 47 years. On November 12th 1986 he received a kidney transplant. He diligently followed the protocol that kept his new kidney hard at work for more than 24 years. Don was a highly respected business man that consulted and helped numerous businesses and individuals. He owned Federal Tax Consultants and Estes Bookkeeping. He will always be remember for his generous kind acts to both those he knew and those that he encountered (even strangers were blessed by his profound generosity). He supported several ministries, school booster clubs, and civic organizations. He was a founding member and faithfully attended Victory Church in Abilene.
He was predeceased by his father, Wilson G. Estes, November 28, 1994 and his granddaughter, Candace Lene Estes, September 29, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Jean Estes; mother, Virginia Estes; four children and their spouses, Randy Estes and Fonda, Sherry Howard and Tom, Don Estes, Jr. and Sherry, and Greg Estes and Larrie, three brothers and their spouses, Paul Estes and Anita, Larry Estes and Edie, and Frank Estes and Ivalene; fourteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Special thanks to his business employees, including Sharon Richey, office manager also, the Dallas Transplant Center, Methodist Hospital in Dallas, and the Staff of Hendricks hospital.
The service will be held Thursday, December 9th at 10 am at Bethel Temple Christian Center at 3101 N. 12th Street in Abilene directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Memorial Gifts are to be directed to the Texas Kidney Foundation or Victory Church and will be accepted at 301 N. Willis Ste B. Abilene, TX 79603.
