Dolores Yvonne Williams Wilson was born August 28th, 1934, in the home of her grandparents, Lee D. and Callie Horton Williams located in Noddle, Jones County, Texas. Her parents were Charles Riley Williams and Alice Lucille Hodges Williams. Dolores passed away at the age of 81 on Thursday, July 14, 2016 in Abilene, Texas.
Her family moved to Abilene, Texas in 1942 for her father to teach and coach at the new South Jr. High School. Her mother also worked for AISD. She attended Alta Vista, South Jr. High School, and graduated from Abilene High School in 1953. She attended McMurry University. She worked for Earnestine Callahan, owner of Callahan Interest, as a secretary until January 1956.
In 1950 she met her high school sweetheart, Charles Delmon Wilson, and they married in Abilene, Texas, in the home of her parents on December 17th, 1955. They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in December 2015.
Their son, Steven D. Wilson, was born April 2, 1957. Their daughter, Susan D. Wilson, was born February 9, 1960. She was a homemaker until 1978 when she went back to work as secretary to the president and owner owner of D.A.B. Oil Service, Inc., David A. Bedford. She worked for him until she retired in December 1999.
She enjoyed being Grandmother to Tanner and Ryan McCoy and Elizabeth and Katherine Wilson and Jonathan Hoelzer. She stayed busy keeping her AHS Classmates informed on class news, and helping plan many class reunions. She helped write three genealogy books with her Aunt Mary Williams covering the Williams family and sister-in-law, Joy Wilson Teaff, covering the Wilson and Grigg family. She also compiled a book on the Hodges family. She was a past member of the Abilene Woman's Club and the Merkel Historical Society. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church for over 55 years. She served as President of Crockett PTA and Jefferson Jr. High PTA. Above all, she wanted to teach her children and grandchildren that the most important things in life were Faith, Family and Friends. She thought that going to good schools and choosing the right career were also important for a happy life. She still enjoyed having lunch once a month with friends she made through her school years in AISD and church.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, Charles R. and Lucille Williams, her grandparents, Lee D. and Callie Williams, and Richard Hodges Sr. and wife Beula, her mother and father-in-law, Archie and Amy Wilson, and brothers and sisters-in-law, J.C. and Margaret Wilson and Horace and Connie Wilson, as well as her best little girl friend, Bitzy, her ShihTzu dog for 14 years who will be buried with her.
She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Delmon Wilson; her son Steve Wilson, and daughter, Susan Wilson McCoy; her five grandchildren, Tanner, Ryan, Elizabeth, Katherine and Jonathan. Two Great-grandchildren, Gia and Landon. She is also survived by her brother Charles R. Williams and wife LaVerne, sister-in-law, Joy Wilson Teaff and husband, Berneil, and brother-in-law, Robert Earl Wilson and wife, Ethel, all of Abilene, Texas; a cousin, Randy Hodges of California, and several Williams cousins and many of her extended Wilson family.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 19th, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas, with Rev. Amy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery, 5701 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 18th, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Kelly McCoy, Wendell Carroll, Nathan Carroll, James Paige, Tanner McCoy and Ryan McCoy.
