Dixie Elaine Eller was born February 28th, 1931 and went to meet Jesus her savior on June 29th, 2018. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 3rd, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas. Interment will be at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington, Texas, at 3:00 p.m., the same day.
Dixie was born to Eddie and Laura Jackson in Farmersville, TX as the third of five children. After graduating from Farmersville High School, she received her degree in business administration from the University of North Texas in 1951 and a master’s in education. She married Charles Manning Eller on February 5th, 1951.
Dixie taught 5th and 6th grade for 36 years in Arlington, Texas at Blanton, Goodman, and Thornton elementary schools. She was teacher of the year in 1967 and 1968 and a lead teacher at Blanton Elementary. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, NEA, and TSTA.
Dixie and Charles welcomed their son Kevin into their lives on January 23rd, 1963.
Dixie was a member of Eastern Star for 61 years in Arlington and Abilene. She served in many capacities and was Worthy Matron for the Arlington chapter 249.
Following retirement, Dixie and Charles moved to Abilene, Texas.
Dixie and Charles loved to travel, visiting many continents and all 50 states.
Dixie is preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Laura Jackson, her dear son Kevin, and her sisters Idadell Patterson, Melba Gooch, Barbara West, and brother Wesley E Jackson.
Surviving to cherish her memory is her husband of 67 years, Charles, and her nieces and nephews; Melody Christenson, Steve West,Trent Patterson, Kellie Patterson, Lori Howland and Laura Willis, great nieces and nephews; Amanda Westbrook, Tiffany Bell, Monica Hood, Justin Halbert, Ryan Jackson and Allyson Hord.
The Eller family would like to thank Leslie Wood, Annalyn Shudde, MacKenzie Humphrey, Cara Sue Sitton, and Brianne Sanchez, and Destiny Wadewitz for service on the “Dixie Team.” The Eller family would also like to thank Hendrick Hospice for their tender care.
