Dixie Wooldridge Corthron, 66, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 22nd, 2014.
Dixie was born on December 22, 1947 in Colorado City TX to Dan Kenebrew Wooldridge and Eula Elsie DeBusk. She grew up in Albany TX where her father was a rancher and she became a lover of the outdoors, especially shooting and fishing on the family ranch. She graduated from Albany High School in 1966 and was a member of the Albany High School Band where she played the clarinet and participated in the annual Albany Fandangle. She attended Draughn’s business college in Abilene where she studied accounting. She was an employee of Jack Denson, where she worked as an accountant and office manager for 30 years.
Dixie was passionate about her children and grandchildren and loved to keep up with their many successes and events. She loved to travel, especially to Europe, and spent a great deal of time reading about, researching and exploring European history and culture. Dixie was a lover of animals and dedicated much of her time to caring for the many strays that she and Carl had taken in over the years. She also was a very kind and compassionate person, never looking at anyone with anything but love and care for them. She enjoyed always helping those in need, regardless of circumstance and did this silently, expecting nothing in return.
Dixie was predeceased by her brother Mack Houston Wooldridge and her sister Donnie Emma Wooldridge.
She is survived by her husband Carl Corthron of Idalou, her daughter Brandi Lambert and her husband Michael of Idalou, her son Damon Cooley and his wife Brandee of Idalou; stepsons Casey Corthron of Abilene, Cary Corthron and his wife Lota Zoth of Buffalo Gap, and stepdaughters Callie Pullar and her husband Jason of Atlanta GA and Crysta Gonzalez of Berlin Germany. Dixie had 13 grandchildren of whom she was always very proud. One of her favorite things to do was travel and show her grandchildren the world she loved so much. Grandchildren are Westley and Lance Stephens; Mikey and Dani Lambert; Derick, Zachary, and Kamarie Spargo; and Jeter, Jaxon, and Harper Cooley; and Clay and Quinn Randal and Dylan Pullar.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 25th at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Burial will be in Albany Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 24th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Special thanks to Michelle Craig and the Staff at Library of Legacies in Idalou, TX and Gentiva Hospice in Lubbock, TX for their friendship and compassionate care.
