Destri Atchley, 43, of Abilene died Monday, June 20, 2011, in Coleman County, Texas.
Born in Kermit, Texas on October 13, 1967, he was the son of James Wayne Atchley and the late Glenda Gail (Smith) Atchley. Destri was a graduate of Wylie High School, having moved in 1982 to Abilene, where he lived most of his life. For the past 15 years, he had been employed by the City of Abilene in the Parks and Recreation Department. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Destri is survived by two sons, D.J. Atchley and Hunter Atchley of Abilene; two daughters, Lydia Gooding and husband Ben of Richlands, North Carolina, and Summer Atchley of Abilene; and their mother, Tracy Atchley of Abilene.
He is also survived by his father and stepmother, Wayne and Janice Atchley of Abilene; brother, Dennis Atchley and wife Bettie of Magnolia, Texas; two nephews, Chris Atchley and wife Diana, and their children, Keegan and Brycen, of Snyder, and Justin Atchley of Midland; stepbrother, Aaron Powers of Fort Worth; and stepsister, Gwen Crowe and husband J.D. of Buda, Texas.
Survivors also include Destri's children's two aunts (Tracy's sisters) and their husbands and children, Debra Hogue and Jason and their children Matthew and Dillon of Abilene, and Sylvia Aguirre and Paul and their children P.J. and Alexia of Midland.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 23, in the chapel at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, with Father Robert Bush and Steve Queen officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Lance Deal, Brad Hopper, Randy Sprayberry, Jacob Phariss, Marty Martinez, Refugio Patino and John Lewis.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
