A light has gone out in this world and Heaven now shines all the brighter. That cherished light was Delma Mae Inman Brasher, who passed on to Glory on Monday, January 7, 2013. Born in 1919 to Virgil and Ruth (Cordell) Inman in Sherman, Texas, Delma was given the nickname “Dude” by her siblings Virgil, Edward, Tom, Thelma, Rudolph and Charles Inman. She has been known and loved as “Dude” ever since.
In 1942, Dude met her future husband Jerry Brasher in Sherman, Texas where he was stationed at the Perrin Air Force Base. Jerry knew he had met “the one” and after being accepted into Southern Aviation Training School in Decatur, Alabama, he mailed Dude an engagement ring. She wore the ring until Jerry’s return in 1944. That same year Dude and Jerry were married in Dennison, Texas in the Pastor’s study at a local Baptist Church, Pastor’s wife as witness.
Dude and Jerry began a life together that has spanned over 68 years. Living at locations all over the nation, they settled first in Dallas, Texas, and later in Abilene, Texas in 1963. In Abilene, Dude and Jerry have been members of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church for many years.
Dude is survived by uncounted family and friends who mourn her loss: husband Jerry; son, Steve Brasher and his wife Linda of Tuscola; daughter-in-law, Joyce Brasher, wife of the late beloved son Richard Brasher of Southlake; brother, Rudolph Inman of Sherman; sister-in-law Shirley Inman of Winona; sister-in-law, Javauda Riggs of Torrance, California; grandchild, Jamie Brasher Baker with husband Jeff and great grandchildren Callie and Camden; grandchild Sommer Brasher Slosson with great grandchildren Zane and Trinity; grandchild Karie Brasher Hagy with husband Mitch and great grandchildren Nathanael and Paisley; grandchild Cody Brasher and fiancé Heather Finley; and too many other family members and longtime friends to list here.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013, at 9:30 a.m., at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Interment will follow at The Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
