David Leon “Shorty” Vaughn, 84, died Thursday, May 22, 2014 at his residence.
Born in Hodges, Texas on September 10, 1929, he was the son of Susie E. (Deatherage) and John E. Vaughn. Shorty was a self-employed farmer and rancher. He loved to fish and fellowship with people. He attended Bethel Assembly in Anson when able.
Shorty married Robbie Jean Ice on January 23, 1953 in Abilene. She preceded him in death on August 17, 2009. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca Lynn Vaughn.
Survivors include one daughter, Deborah Crawford of Hodges; one son, Leon Vaughn and wife Tonya of Abilene; one sister, Mildred Westbrook of Hodges; five grandchildren, Nicholas Crawford, Sally Stephens and husband Michael, John David Vaughn and wife Katrina, Heather Dickson and husband Jason, and Callie Vaughn; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews including a very special nephew to whom Shorty was very close, Wendell Stanley.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2014 at Bethel Assembly in Anson with Pastor Cody Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in the Midway Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Serving as pallbearers will be Barry Banner, Logan Cravens, Mike McLellan, David Peacock, Milton Langston and David Hager. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Paul Howle and Bill Sims.
