David A. Nelson

David A. Nelson, 59, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016 in Abilene, Texas after a long battle with cancer. Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 18, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 19, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with Pete English officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Texas State Veteran Cemetery at Abilene. David was born in Walla Walla, Washington to James A. and Betty L. Nelson on September 15, 1956. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of sergeant as a bridge engineer and receiving various commendations. David was preceded in death by his mother, Betty L. Nelson, and his brother, Zachary Zura. David is survived by his father, James A. and wife Georgia J. Nelson of Abilene; brother, Michael A. Nelson and wife Lisa G., and nephew, David C. Nelson of Merkel; and sister, Kimberly A. and Tim of Olathe, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.
