Darrell Berkley Tinney, 78 years old of Abilene, Texas passed away on October 5, 2022, in Abilene, Texas.
Visitation will be Friday, October 7, 2022, from 5-7 at the Hamil Family Funeral Home Abilene, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, with Oren Rake of Crossway Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Drummond Cemetery.
Darrell was born in San Saba to Henry and Ida Tinney on January 31, 1944. He went to school in San Saba and graduated Salutatorian of his 1962 class. Darrell married Nora Ann Bean of Abilene on November 25, 1964. Darrell attended McMurry College for two years prior to enlisting in the United States Coast Guard in 1966. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service medal with Bronze star, Vietnam Campaign Medal device, and the US Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal. Darrell was involved with the View Volunteer Fire Department, Drummond Cemetery Association, Wylie All-Sports Booster Club sponsor, 4-H Sponsor, and a member of the San Saba Alumni Association.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ida Tinney, sister Edith Cagle, nephew John Cagle, niece Michael Ann Swindler, brother Tommie Tinney, daughter Kara Tinney Farmer and granddaughter Olivia Tinney.
Darrell is survived by wife Nora Tinney, son Jeff and Angela Tinney, grandson Tucker Farmer, sister-in law Jane Tinney, nephew Alton and Kim Tinney, niece Ann Tinney, nephew Gary and Melinda Freeland, many great nephews, great nieces, and multiple cousins.
Pallbearers will be Mike Wylie, Colt Johnson, Alton Tinney, Trey Tinney, Trevor Tinney, and Tucker Farmer. Honorary Pall Bearers are Robert Alan Hancock, Jerry Godfrey, Larry Johnson, Todd Johnson, and Donald Wylie.
The family wishes to thank the nursing staff of the 7th floor Collier Wing and 2nd floor ICU at Hendrick Medical Center.
