Darold W. (Doc) Davis, age 96, of Abilene, TX passed away on Friday, March 17, 2017 in Abilene.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
Burial will be on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene.
Darold was born in Frazier, Missouri to John and Audrey Davis on December 13, 1920. He went to school in Topeka, KS, and graduated from Topeka High School. He attended Washburn University before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He was a pilot and veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, and was awarded three Distinguished Flying Cross awards, five Air Medal awards, two Navy Commendation Medals, two Presidential Unit Citation awards, and a WWII Victory Medal China service. He was squadron leader of VA113 (Stingers), and Air Operations Officer on a carrier.
Darold was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor C. Davis, his son, Thomas L. Davis, and stepson, John Gartner.
Darold is survived by Darold W. Davis II (Laura), Connie L. Shewchuk (Michael), Melodee R. Davis, Karen L. Livingston (Wayne), LuAnn Gartner, and Steven Gartner, and several cousins. He has fourteen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
