Daphine Poer Hays, 89, of Abilene, passed away at home at Wesley Court on July 26, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm at Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, on Saturday, July 28, 2012.
Roland Williams, Chaplain at Wesley Court, will conduct her service. Burial will take place at Elmwood Memorial Park following the service.
Daphine was born in Haskell County on September 17, 1922 to Jim Lee and Didama Poer. She was the sixth child of seven children. She grew up and attended school in Tahoka, Texas. She married W.M. (Mack) Hays on September 21, 1947. She was a member of the Heavenly Rest Episcopal Church where she served on the Alter Guild. She also needlepointed prayer kneelers for the church.
Daphine was an accomplished seamstress, a needlepointer, an angler, a championship level amateur golfer, and a wonderful cook. Mack and Daphine traveled the world and took their grandson, Christopher, to Europe in 1988. She spent the last six months of her life needlepointing her great granddaughter, Ava Grace's family Christmas stocking as she did for everyone in her family. Daphine was a strong independent woman who loved her family with all her heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack; her son, Pete; and six brothers and sisters.
Daphine is survived by a son, Jim and his wife Holly of Abilene; a grandson, Christopher and his wife Tanya of Rockwall; 3 great granddaughters, Lacey , Alyson and Ava Grace all of Rockwall. She is also survived by her lifelong friend, Charlotte Cramer of Arlington and her very dearest companion of 10 years, Ray Landers.
