Danny Isbell

1948 — August 22, 2015

Daniel Allen Isbell was born on April 20, 1948 in Haskell, Texas to Allen (Jiggs) and Lyla Mary (Mickler) Isbell. He passed away on August 22, 2015 at Abilene Regional Medical Center due to medical complications. Danny attended Paint Creek Schools throughout his school career. When he was 16, Danny suffered a broken neck in a high school football game. The next six months were spent in Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. When Danny was able to return home, his therapy began at West Texas Rehabilitation Center in Abilene, Texas. After graduation from high school, Danny attended and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University. Danny's first, and only, job was at WTRC. Shelley V. Smith was his mentor and was a significant inspiration in Danny's life. Danny completed 42 years with the Rehab in July. While he was attending HSU, Danny met Janice Rainey from Weinert, Texas. They were married on August 17, 1973. They were blessed with two sons: Jonathan Allen and Daniel Mark. The family moved to Potosi in 1985. They are members of Potosi Baptist Church. Danny never met a stranger. He never complained. He was always more interested in the well-being of others than himself. Even with physical limitations, Danny got the job done. He enjoyed his cows, the Dallas Cowboys, the Wylie Bulldogs, the Texas Rangers, and the PBR. Danny loved his family very much, and he always wanted the very best for everyone. Danny was a member of the Abilene High/Cooper High Agriculture Science Advisory Committee, Potosi Water Board, Wylie Livestock Show Committee, and an Honorary Member of the Wylie FFA. Danny was the Agricultural Coordinator for West Texas Rehab Center. Preceding him in death were his dad and maternal and paternal grandparents. Survivors include his wife, Janice, of Abilene; his sons, Jonathan (Corinne) of Gulf Breeze, Florida and Mark of Abilene; his grandson, Finley Ambrose Daniel (Finn) of Gulf Breeze; his mother, Lyla Mary (Tata) of Haskell; his sisters, Nene (Don) Comedy of Marble Falls and Janice (Frank) Dutton of Munday; many nieces and nephews, several cousins, and innumerable friends. Special buddies were Lady and Punkin, Bonnie and Clyde. Visitation will be Thursday, August 27, from 4:30-6:30 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Funeral services will be Friday, August 28, at 1:00 p.m. at Beltway Park Church, 4009 Beltway South in Abilene, with Bro. Keith Clifton officiating, assisted by Tommy Holmes and Cecil Davis. Burial will follow at the Potosi Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randy Carson, Mike Alexander, Woody Gilliland, Archie Jobe, Sonny Dillard, Randy Murphree, Brett Strickland, H. T. Gleason, Darren Carson, and Bob Moorhouse. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to West Texas Rehab Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, TX 79605. The family would like to thank the nurses on Fourth Floor and ICU for their tender care of Danny. A special thanks goes to Dr. Keith Robinson and Dr. Thomas Headstream.
