Sam Reeves was born on January 31, 1933 in Sweetwater, Texas. He graduated from University of North Texas in 1954 with a business degree. He died on October 30, 2007 in Abilene, Texas at Hendrick Hospital. Sam had an unwavering spirit to give. His passion for giving to the community and his gift of leadership were demonstrated by his serving as both President and Board Director of First National Bank of Sweetwater; Chairman of the Board for Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital; Texas State Technical College Foundation; West Texas Rehabilitation Center board member; Community Foundations of Abilene board member and chairman; The Grace Museum board member; Board member of the Alliance for Women and Children; Chairman of the Board for Sears Methodist Retirement Systems, Inc. Sam received a national award as Trustee of the year in 2004 from the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging. His passion for giving continued with the serving and profound relationships he had with family and friends. Sam is survived by his wife, Susan of 29 years; his daughter Pam and son-in-law Rick Rhodes of Austin, his sons Chris Hawkins and wife Cindy of Houston and Marc Hawkins of Austin. Sam is also survived by two grandchildren and one great grandchild. Craig and Kristi Rhodes of Houston with son Luke and Scott and Rebekah Rhodes of Austin. Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Flossie Reeves, and a son, Steve Reeves. A memorial service for Sam will be held on Friday, November 2, 2007 at 1:00 pm at St. Paul's United Methodist Church downtown, under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sears Methodist Retirement Systems, Inc., One Village Drive, Suite 102, Abilene, Texas 79606 or Windcrest Alzheimer's Care Center, 6050 Hospital Drive, Abilene, Texas 79606, or your favorite charity.
