Dale "Red" Prince, 86, died Thursday, June 7, 2012, at an Abilene nursing center.
The son of Ida Mae (Sweringen) and Herbert Dale Prince, Dale was born on October 3, 1925 in Stamford, Texas. During World War II, he could not serve in the military because of a disability, but he worked at Lockheed in Fort Worth, Texas "building planes for the war".
Dale married Matilene London on April 7, 1946 in Stamford, Texas, and moved that same year to Abilene where he retired from Abilene Reporter-News as maintenance engineer after a 39-year career. For over 40 years he was a member of Southwest Park Baptist Church, having taught 4 and 5-year-old Sunday School Class for 32 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
Dale is survived by his wife Matilene Prince of Abilene; son Herbert Dale Prince and wife Jan of Abilene; daughter Kay Prince of Boerne, Texas; two grandchildren Tina Kay Hobbs and husband Cody, and Billy Dale Prince and wife Mary, all of Abilene; six great-grandchildren, Thad, Arwen, Davey, James, Ashley and Jordin; two step-grandchildren, Kevin Peveler and Janie Peveler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at Southwest Park Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Woodard officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
