Dale Robert Kell, 66, of Baird, died Saturday, October 07, 2006 at a local hospital. Visitation will be on Monday, October 9, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday in the funeral home chapel, with Leroy Mason officiating.
Dale was born in DeWitt, Iowa on May 9, 1940 to Robert Clothier Kell and Joyce Marie (Briggs) Kell. He joined the United States Air Force in 1958 where he specialized in Avionics and served in Vietnam. In 1980, after 22 years of service, Dale retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant. He married Kathryn Baseler on April 17, 1993 in Austin, Texas. Dale was a member of the following organizations: Masonic Lodge #559 in Abilene, Suez Shrine Temple, American Legion in Baird-Post 82, and a life time member of VFW Post 6873. He was past director of the Royal Order of Jesters Court #160. He was also past president of the Abilene Shrine Club and past president of the Texas State Shrine Clown Association. Dale lived in Abilene for many years before moving to Baird about one year ago. His favorite pastime was playing golf at the Shady Oaks Golf Course in Baird, of which he was a member.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents and one sister, Sandra Kell. Dale is survived by his wife, Kathryn Kell of Baird; two daughters, Brenda Mills (David) of Abilene, Penny Schumann (Rodney) of Novice, Texas; one brother, Roger Kell (Pat) of Wickenburg, Arizona; two sisters-in-law, Angene Trunnell and her family, Marilyn Benfield (Raymond) and their family; four grandchildren, Erin and Tara Notgrass of Abilene, Peyton and Morgan Schumann of Novice, and two nieces, Roberta Gains and Rebecca Kell.
Memorials may be made in honor of Mr. Kell to the Shriners Burn Hospital, 815 Market Street, Galveston, Texas 77550; the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1132, Fairfax, Virginia 22038; or to the donor's favorite charity.
