Curtis Randolph "Randy" Strickland died Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at the age of 60. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Hillcrest Church of Christ. At Randy's request, immediately following the memorial service, a barbeque lunch will be served in the fellowship hall for all friends and family to attend.
October 19, 1946, Randy was born to Curtis Odell Strickland and Camella Eugenia Wilkinson in Matador, Texas. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in English with a minor in Speech, from McMurry University. He continued his education at the University of Texas at Austin, receiving a Master of Education and Educational Administration Degree.
Randy's professional affiliations included: Board of Directors, Textbook Coordinators' Association of Texas; State President, 1994-1995; Founding Director; Member of the Texas School Public Relations Association; Board of Directors, Capital Area Education to Careers Partnership; Legislative Committee, Association of Compensatory Educators of Texas; Former Chairperson, McMurry University School of Education Advisory Council.
His civic activities included: Pflugerville City Council, Place 3; May, 1997 to May, 2000; Former Director, Greater Pflugerville Chamber of Commerce; Vice-president of Governmental Affairs; and City of Pflugerville ISD United Way Campaign Coordinator.
Randy was raised in Abilene, and later lived in Pflugerville, and Bradenton, Florida. He spent his last 3 years with family and friends in San Antonio and Abilene. He lived the final 20 months with his sister and brother-in-law, Suzanna and Mike, who cared for him during his illness with ALS.
His parents preceded him in death. Randy is survived by his son, Joshua Randolph Strickland of Tampa, Florida; his daughter, Callie Elizabeth Strickland of San Antonio, Texas; the mother of his children, Britta Strickland, also of San Antonio; two sisters, Suzanna Hosch and her husband Mike of Abilene, and Priscilla Steele and her husband Arnold of Cartwrite, Oklahoma, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
