Cuin Grigsby, 79, died Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at his residence in Abilene.
Born in Stillwater, Oklahoma on February 29, 1932, Cuin was the son of Frances Juanita (Wyatt) and Mager Cuin Grigsby, Sr. He was an avid supporter of Baylor University, having received his Bachelor of Education degree from Baylor in 1954. He was in the ROTC and a member of Chamber Men at Baylor. Cuin served in the U. S. Air Force for two years, stationed the entire time at Webb AFB in Big Spring, Texas.
Cuin married Judy Lawson on December 26, 1953 at First Methodist Church in Big Spring.
In 1958 Cuin opened Grigsby's Red Goose Shoe Store and later Grigsby's Rag Doll, a retail store selling women's clothing and shoes in Abilene. The company expanded to include additional stores in Wichita Falls, Midland, Odessa, Lubbock and San Angelo. Cuin had been recognized as "Retailer of the Year in 1984" by the Dallas Apparel Mart.
In Abilene, Cuin served on the Board of Directors of Bank of Commerce, the Board of Trustees at Hendrick Medical Center for 18 years, and Salvation Army Board, as well as on numerous committees.
Cuin had been a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church since 1958 and a Deacon since 1962.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his brother, Wesley Grigsby in 2010.
Cuin is survived by his wife, Judy Grigsby of Abilene; son, Gary Grigsby and wife Kathryn of Houston; and three grandchildren, Carter Grigsby, Meagan Grigsby and Anna Leigh Grigsby. Survivors also include a sister, Merlene Pierce of Colorado City; two nieces Prinny Ham and Gina Farrell both of Odessa; and great-nieces and nephews, Jamison, Ashley, McKenzie and Hunter Farrell, as well as close friend, Bobby Melson.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 9, at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church with Brother Jack Ridlehoover officiating, assisted by Rev. Stan Allcorn. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Viewing will be on Thursday until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Carter Grigsby, Bobby Melson, Charles Van Pelt, Ron McMillon, Chuck Tilbrook, Stephen Grigsby and Louis Stallings.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the donor's favorite charity.
