C.R. Massey

Charles Randolph Massey, Jr., of Abilene, passed away on July 5, 2023, at the age of 98.

A private family graveside service will be held in Goldthwaite, TX on Monday, July 10, 2023.

C.R. was born on October 26, 1924, in Mullin, Texas to Charles Randolph Massey, Sr. and Stella Meeks Massey. During World War II, he proudly served in the United States Army from March 1943 until March 1946. After basic training in Fort Reno, Oklahoma, he served on special assignments in Camp Locket, California, Bombay, India, and Calcutta, India. He later served as 1^st SGT in Mytykia, Burma delivering pack mules and horses loaded with supplies to our infantry troops in the jungles where trucks and jeeps could not enter.  For over 25 years, he managed grocery stores in Goldthwaite, Big Lake, San Angelo, McCamey, and Del Rio. He was in the real estate and automobile business in Del Rio from 1979 to 1990.  After retiring in 1990, he and his wife, Rhonda, moved to Abilene and they loved to follow the grandkids as they participated in various athletic events.  He was a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ and later Southern Hills.

He married Rhonda Robinson on June 7, 1947, who preceded him in death, on April 13, 2008. He married Judy McSherry on June 18, 2011.   He is survived by his wife, Judy Massey; sons, Ronnie Massey and wife Marilyn of Clifton, Texas, Bruce Massey and wife, Pam, of Abilene, Texas; four grandchildren:  Brittany Harris, Misty Benton, Julie Williams, and Brad Massey and eleven great grandchildren.

His most important accomplishment in life was being such a wonderful Christian loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and will always be remembered as "pop."

A special “thank you” to the wonderful administration, staff, nurses, cooks, and drivers at Silver Springs Nursing Home, as well as Carrie and staff of Interim Hospice. Your love, care, and concern for pop was overwhelming.
