Coy S. Cole, 60, died Saturday, October 18, 2014, at his residence in Abilene, Texas. Born in Norfolk, Virginia on April 9, 1954, Coy moved to Abilene where he graduated from both Abilene High School and Hardin-Simmons University. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, 1st Marine Division, from 1972 to 1974. On August 22, 1975, Coy married Janie D. Cole in Clyde, Texas. He worked as a police officer for the Abilene Police Department for 27 years before his retirement. He was preceded in death by his loving uncle, Odis E. Cole, and special nephew, Sgt. Wesley R. Durbin. Coy is survived by his wife, Janie D. Cole; son, Judson D. Cole and wife Tara and his beloved granddaughter, “Stinkerdoodle” Paisley M’Kaye Cole. Survivors also include his loving aunt, Mary Jo Cole; father and mother-in-law, Bob and Nelda Dean; and numerous other family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 20, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene. Serving as pallbearers will be Dennis Crawford, Dale Grimes, Terry Zimmerlee, Chris Smith, Ramiro Faz, Gary Heslep, Roy Don Parrack, and Garland Wade. Memorial contributions in memory of Coy may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
