Cole Worley of Abilene, TX, passed away on October 10, 2012, at the age of 30.
Memorial services will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 13th, at the Beltway Park Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas, under the direction of The Hamil Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Fay Simons, Pastor of the Revival Center in Cross Plains, TX, is officiating. Aunt Fay's quiet strength, courage, and wisdom were an inspiration to Cole, and she brought him great comfort in his most needed moments.
Cole was born in Brownwood, TX, to Rick and Tammy Worley on January 5th, 1982. As a child Cole proved creative and resourceful, often taking toys apart in order to fashion new ones. He began working with wood at a young age, constructing working - and often surprisingly accurate - bows, arrows, and other simple machines, and later progressed to larger projects such as furniture. This passion for creating led Cole to adopt new mediums throughout his life such as flint, from which he built many beautiful pieces using simple, hand-made tools he had fashioned from antlers and other authentic materials. He began working for Southland Homes, his parent's construction company, at the age of fourteen. A fourth-generation home builder, Cole most recently served as the Construction Manager at Habitat for Humanity of Abilene, where he combined his lifelong love of building with his dedication to teaching and serving.
Cole had a strong devotion to learning and pursued a diverse collection of interests. He was a self-taught guitarist who enjoyed playing music with friends and family, as well as a proficient martial artist, obtaining the rank of brown belt in Kuk Sool Won. Cole was a gifted student of Chess, and took pleasure in reading and discussing philosophy, science, astronomy, and history. A consummate outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a remarkable marksman.
Cole found his greatest joy in spending time with people he loved and respected. Whether playing golf with his dad and grandfather, building houses with teams of volunteers, or spending weekends camping with friends and family, Cole embraced every opportunity to extend his compassion and knowledge to those around him. He delighted in learning from those with diverse backgrounds and with experiences different from his own. No one had more love for their mother than Cole.
Cole is survived by his parents, Rick and Tammy Worley of Abilene, TX; his brother and sister-in-law, Jesse and Becca Worley of Carbondale, IL; grandparents, Mamie and George Webb of Abilene, TX; and numerous loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Habitat for Humanity of Abilene at abilenehabitat.org/donate/.
