Col. Curtis D. Moore, U.S.A.F. (Ret) 78, died Saturday, October 15, 2011 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 pm on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 pm at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene with full military honors. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Curtis was born August 5, 1933 in Holly Springs, Mississippi to Chester and Bessie Mae (Spencer) Moore. The family moved to Memphis, Tennessee when he was a young boy. Curtis graduated from Messick High School in Memphis and later graduated from Memphis State University. He was commissioned into the United States Air Force on March 14, 1956. While attending pilot training in Enid, Oklahoma, Curtis met his future wife of 54 years, Delores Postier. They were married in Garber, Oklahoma on August 3, 1957.
Curtis served our nation for 30 years as an Air Force officer and pilot. He flew numerous aircraft during his career including the B-47, B-52, and C-130. Curtis was also a veteran of the Vietnam War and led others as an aircraft commander of the 337th Bomb Squadron Commander at Dyess, and finally, as commander of the 43rd Strategic Wing at Anderson AFB in Guam. He returned to Abilene with Delores in 1983 and retired from the Air Force on April 30, 1986. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Walter Moore. He is survived by his wife, Delores Moore of Abilene; one son, Russell Moore and wife Jeannie of Flower Mound; one daughter, Sherri Moore and husband Richard Holland of Branford, Connecticut; and three grandchildren, Marshall Moore and wife Joan, Caitlin Moore and Christina Holland.
