Clyde Ray Landers
Clyde Ray Landers went to meet his Maker, Lord, and Savior, November 6, 2013, while a resident in Wesley Court in Abilene, Texas.
Ray was born April 16, 1921, to Clyde Russell Landers and Ethyl Butts Landers in Post, Texas.
Following his graduation from Abilene High School, he moved to El Paso, TX to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad. He was employed there for 30 years, retiring from the Railroad in 1968. During World War II, he served as a Tech 4 in the United States Army Signal Corps in the South Pacific, and was stationed in Hiroshima, Japan, following the surrender of the Japanese.
When he returned to Abilene in 1967, he worked for Bowman Paint Company. Later he went into construction, then had his own painting, cabinet building and remodeling business.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Pauline Adami Landers, whom he married in 1940 and was the mother of his two sons, Sam and John; Aline McCoy Landers, whom he married in 1958; one brother, Charlie; and golfing and traveling friend, Daphine Hays.
Ray is survived by his two sons, Dr. Sam Ray Landers (USAF Col. Retired) and wife Alice Faye, and John Charles Landers and wife Katherine, of Arizona; and a cousin, Jane Ayers and her son, Seth, of Abilene. Grandchildren surviving Ray are: Susan Landers of Phoenix, AZ; Brent Landers of Tucson, AZ; Rebecca Rossini of Sparks, NV; Brenda Parker of Scottsdale, AZ, and Jacob Landers of Marana, AZ. Survivors also include a niece and her husband, Judy and Steve Bederman of Colorado, and several great-grandchildren, as well as Jim and Holly Hays and family, who have been close and helpful friends for a number of years.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, November 8, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. The graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 9, in Elmwood Memorial Park with Rev. Roland Williams officiating.
