Clyde J. (Gus) Gustafson, 88, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at an Abilene medical center. Born in Mound City, Illinois on September 15, 1924, Gus was the son of Rosa (Washer) and Edward F. Gustafson.
Mr. Gustafson worked as a pharmaceutical representative, first for McKesson & Robbins and later Texas Drug, for a career total of 65 years. He was a member of the West Texas Pharmaceutical Association and Big Country Pharmaceutical Association.
Gus was a member of Chapter Council and Command Abilene Chamber of Commerce, and a member of Blue Lodge Scottish Rite, Suez Temple, and Shrine York Rite. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Administrative Board of St. Paul United Methodist Church, and the Propheteers Sunday School Class at the church.
Gus was preceded in death on July 15, 2010 by his wife, Dorothy Young Gustafson, whom he married on June 8, 1945 in Cairo, Illinois. He was also preceded in death by his son, Clyde J. Gustafson, Jr. on April 29, 2001; his parents; and two brothers, Bill Gustafson and Glenn F. Gustafson.
Survivors include his daughters, Cheryl Jackson and husband Stuyve of Corpus Christi, and Patricia Hallmark and husband Jerry of Tuscola; grandchildren and their spouses, Lori Jackson, Broeck Ruch (David), Beau Dempsey (Holly), Paige Dempsey (Janell), Jamie McNab (Brandon), Jeff Hallmark (Susan), Jason Hallmark (Missy), and Jennifer Hallmark; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. Ross Whiteaker and Rev. Robert P. Kelley. Entombment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, Mausoleum III, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 14, at the funeral home.
