Cleve Evans, 74, died Thursday, June 28, 2012 at an Abilene medical center.
The son of Martha Elizabeth (Watkins) and Henry Cleve Evans, he was born on May 6, 1938 in Memphis, Texas. He was a 1956 graduate of Memphis High School, and after graduating from Clarendon Junior College, he played semi-pro baseball. Cleve was a US Army veteran, having served during the Berlin Crisis.
In 2000, Cleve retired from West Texas Utilities/AEP as Director of Governmental Affairs after a 36-year career. He served on numerous committees with the Chamber of Commerce and The United Way. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Abilene. Cleve was a past member of the Masonic Lodge.
Cleve married Drue Jones on July 30, 1985 in San Antonio, Texas.
His parents; four brothers Grant, Richard, Marion and M.L.; and two sisters Dorothy and Ima Joyce, preceded Cleve in death.
Cleve is survived by his wife Drue Evans of Abilene; son Paul Evans and wife Donna of Boerne, TX; two daughters, Pam Evans of Georgetown, TX and Paige Pollard and husband Mark of Midlothian, TX; stepson Mike McClure and wife Michelle of Abilene; two stepdaughters Kandy Sunderman of Tonganoxie, Kansas, and Suzie Burney and husband Bruce of Frisco, TX; eight grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. Survivors also include three sisters, Peggy Hartman and Judith Uhrich both of Amarillo, and Mary Nell Malone of Dimmitt, TX, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 2, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene with Rev. Ronnie White officiating. Interment will follow in Cross Plains Memorial Cemetery in Cross Plains, TX. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 1, in Abilene at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be David Raymond, Don Welch, Paul Brower, Charles Wetsel, Fred Hernandez and Jack Ballard.
