Clayton Matthew “Matt” Taggart
Clayton Matthew “Matt” Taggart, 51, died Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at an Abilene medical center.
Born in Rotan, Texas on September 23, 1962, he was the son of Renee (Nail) and Michael Don Taggart. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served three years in Spain and one year in Austin.
Since 1992, Matt had been a resident of Abilene, having worked for UPS as a driver for 15 years and then as a supervisor from 2008 until the present. He had a passion for music, and was part of the Worship Team at River of Life Church where he was a member.
Matt married Cindie Havens on April 24, 2002 in Abilene. He was a loving son, husband, father and “Grampie”.
Survivors include his wife, Cindie Taggart of Tuscola; son, Taner Terral and wife Courtney of Lubbock; two daughters, Jade Taggart and fiancé Logan Smith of Weatherford, and Heather Francis and husband Steven of Lubbock; and six grandchildren, Christian, Jaden, Parker, Willow, Easton, and Love. Matt is also survived by his mother, Renee Norwood of Dunn, TX; brothers and their spouses, Mitchell Smith and Laura of Hurst, Richey Smith and Tonya of Lubbock, Coty Norwood and Loratta of Cleveland, TX, Chuck Norwood and Jerica of Magnolia, TX, Paul Taggart and Wendy of Tomball, TX and Jeff Taggart and Jennifer of Lubbock; sisters and their spouses, Christy Walker and Steve of Big Spring, Carla Rodriguez and Ricky of Snyder, and Sherri Winstead and Daniel of Fayetteville, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 14, at River of Life Church with Pastor David Ray officiating. Burial will follow in Iberis Cemetery directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
