Jiggs Chadwick passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at his residence. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20 in Belvieu Cemetery in Rotan, Texas. Brother Jack Ridlehoover will officiate. Visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, September 19, 2008 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Jiggs was born on September 10, 1934 in Paducah, Texas to Claud R. and Rosetta (Tomerlin) Chadwick. He attended Paducah schools. On December 28, 1951, he married Betty Ann Hurt in Grove, Texas. She preceded him in death. Jiggs worked for Shell Oil and the 4-6 Ranch before moving to Abilene in 1958. After coming to Abilene, he worked for Tom Anglin Radiator, Carroll Welding and Abilene Welding Supply. On September 9, 1967, Jiggs married Sharron Robertson of Abilene. In March 1968, he started a career with Continental Battery. This was an association that lasted for the next 32 years. He also owned and operated AAA Battery in Abilene for 20 of these years. Jiggs enjoyed the outdoor life; hunting, fishing and water skiing. He also enjoyed animals. He raised and showed Quarter Horses for 25 years. He was a past member of the American Quarter Horse Association, Quarter Horse Association of West Texas, The Big Country Quarter Horse Association and was on the QHAWT Halter Futurity Committee. After retiring from AAA Battery in 2000, he continued to be active raising calves and working for Presswood Farms until his health declined in February, 2007. He was a Baptist. Jiggs was preceded in death by his first wife Betty, a son, Richard and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Sharron, of the home, two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Frances and Garland Upshaw, of Rotan and Lana and Claude Brafford, of the Metroplex, and four nieces, Patti Wilfong, Peggy Rivers, Connie Brafford and Linda Brafford. Serving as pallbearers will be Roy Jennings, Lane Backus, David Carter, Mike Pueschel, Jim Cowan and Roddy Haley. The family would like to personally thank Drs. George Lindsey and Lufkin Moses, of Sweetwater, and Hendrick Hospice Care. A special thanks to Dianna Hoop, Linda Lancaster, Krissy and Zandra. Memorials may be made in honor of Jigg to Hendrick Hospice Care, P.O. Box 1922, Abilene, Texas 79604-9938, or to your favorite charity.
