Clarence H. Muecke

1921 — April 17, 2009

Clarence Herbert Muecke, 87, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 17, at a local hospital.

A memorial service will be held at Mission Park Funeral Chapel South in San Antonio on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. A Graveside Service, with full military honors, will be held on Friday, April 24 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. The Reverend Thomas Walden will officiate. Local arrangements were handled by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Mr. Muecke was born in Shiner, Texas, on November 21, 1921. His parents were William Tell and Lillie Miller Muecke. He married his high school sweetheart, Ethel Lavigne Ridgway on September 14, 1942, both residents of Yoakum, Texas. He attended The University of Texas and was one semester short of graduating when WWII began. He enlisted and was trained as a pilot in the US Army which spiked a lifelong love for flying. After a medical discharge, he began a career in insurance in San Antonio, where he owned an independent insurance agency for over 35 years before moving with his wife to Abilene thirteen years ago.

Mr. Muecke was a member of Gideons International and those weekly meetings were a highlight of his week. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and also had a strong attachment to Abilene Bible Church. He had several special friends in the Abilene Corvette Club with whom he met weekly for over ten years and wonderful friends and neighbors at Kings Cross.

Mr. Muecke was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 54 years; his brother, Dr. E.W. Muecke of Three Rivers, Texas; and his step-brother, James Pietsch of Yoakum.

Survivors include one son, Monte R. Muecke and his wife, Marie Goforth, of San Antonio; Abbe Morrison and her husband, Ken, of Irving, Texas; and Connie Bawcom and her husband, Dr. Terry Bawcom of Abilene, as well as six grandchildren: Jessica and Darren Inoff, John and Courtney Garrett, Clinton Bawcom, Houston; Brittany and David Gaskill, Dallas; Scott and Jenny Muecke, Naperville, Illinois; and Stephanie, and six great-grandchildren: Peyton, Bennett and Harris Inoff; Grayson and Gage Gaskill; and Kate Muecke.
