Norman Haskew, 86, died Thursday, March 1, 2007 in his home. A funeral service, with Reverend H.B. Terry and Reverend James Teel officiating, will be Monday, March 5 at 2:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial will follow at the Potosi Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home, Sunday, 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Norman was born April 2, 1920 in Stockton, Alabama to Anna Marie Heidel Haskew and Clarence Fredrick Haskew. He attended school in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School in 1939. Norman married Leona Belle Brannan, February 15, 1941 in Abilene. Norman served in the U.S. Army during WWII as member of General Patton's 3rd Army which included the Battle of the Bulge. Norman owned and operated Type-rite Letter Service. He was a member of the Oplin Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, and was active in the Callahan Baptist Association. Norman was a Past PTA President at Fair Park and Bowie Elementary, Past President of the Central Texas Appaloosa Horse Club, and Past State Chaplain of the Coachman Travel Club. He was District President of IAPES, member of Cooper Band Booster Club, member of AQHA, and a member of Callahan County Sheriffs Posse.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Norman is survived by his wife, Leona Belle Haskew of Oplin; two daughters, Holly Anna Walston and husband, Wally of Abilene; Vickie Sue "Susie" Tyson and husband, Wayman "Red" of Oplin. He is also survived by six grandchildren; Tommie N. Tyson, Todd N. Tyson, Taylor B. Walston and wife, Lorraine, Travis R. Walston, Joy S. Cloud, Michael N. Cloud and four great-grandchildren; Timmy Tyson, Brett Walston, Cait'Lyn Walston, and Tristan Cloud.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tommie N. Tyson, Todd N. Tyson, Michael N. Cloud, Timmy Tyson, Tristan H. Cloud, and A.C. Yandell.
